Glarros, derived from the medieval Greek term “Γλάρος,” meaning “Seagull,” underwent a transformation with the addition of an extra ‘R,’ birthing a brand new entity: Glarros. This evolution retains the phonetic essence of its predecessor while imbuing it with fresh significance, now serving as the distinguished Brand Name for the flagship hotel of our esteemed holding.

Nestled within the storied confines of old Tbilisi, Hotel Glarros OldTown commands a position of prominence. Situated along the historic thoroughfare of Kote Apkhazi Street, colloquially known as the “street-square,” it stands as a testament to the city’s ancient lineage. This thoroughfare, once traversed by merchant caravans and lined with artisanal workshops, now serves as both a bustling artery of transportation and a communal nexus, weaving together a tapestry of ethnic, religious, and cultural diversity.

Guided by a central mission to seamlessly integrate into this rich historical fabric, the architecture and interior design of Hotel Glarros OldTown embody a harmonious fusion of tradition and modernity. Rising in place of a 1980s administrative edifice, the hotel’s facade conceals a hidden gem: a spiral brass staircase reminiscent of the enchanting courtyards of Old Town Kaloubani.

Within, intricate mosaic designs adorn the interior, paying homage to Georgian architectural heritage while embracing a contemporary aesthetic inspired by the 1970s. The decision to replace the former structure was driven by a desire to preserve the scale and integrity of the historic surroundings, ensuring that Hotel Glarros OldTown becomes not just a destination but an integral part of Tbilisi’s architectural legacy.

Falling in Love with Glarros OldTown

As for the rooms, the central theme revolves around a wallcovering called Dots, a reinterpretation of Le Corbusier’s own work. Using innovative techniques but faithful to his unique philosophy, the pattern is based on the wallcovering with a dotted pattern that he designed in 1931. The dots are, however, no longer applied in oil paint but with high-gloss relief ink. They provide a subtle reflection which allows the wallcovering to play with light, as Le Corbusier did with his architecture.

At Glarros OldTown, each of the rooms spanning four floors is adorned with wallpaper and ceramics in distinct hues, corresponding to the floor they inhabit: verdant green, warm terracotta, sophisticated anthracite, and tranquil blue. This nuanced chromatic scheme not only pays homage to Le Corbusier’s legacy but also imbues each space with its own unique ambiance and character.

The white walls in the hotel’s back corridors were painted by Ukrainian artist Masha Zelenstein. Following our concept, the theme for painting the hotel’s four floors was chosen to represent the four seasons of the year:
Summer in Sunshine, Winter in Snowflakes, Springtime in Showers, and Falling in Love.

Spiral Stairs

The hotel’s spiral staircase has become a popular landmark in our capital city. The main idea behind the hotel’s architectural concept was to build a modern structure with features characteristic of the historic district. Inspired by the Tbilisi courtyard, our patio was created, with rooms featuring balconies, and of course, the centerpiece of our hotel and the city – the spiral staircase.

Due to the complex configuration of the 5-story spiral staircase of the hotel, it was difficult to find a master for the steps and the handrails. After a long search, we found masters from Borjomi, father and son Jumber and Giorgi Melikidze. They managed to make continuous spiral handles and steps from natural, boiled beech wood. Today, the brass staircase with natural wood steps and handrails has become one of the most beautiful attractions in Tbilisi.

Covering the main component of the spiral staircase with brass was also a great challenge. Due to the complex structure, it was necessary to choose and install such a flexible material that would be firmly attached even to the most complex parts of the staircase. The installation work was successfully handled by master Dimitri Gvazava.

Mosaic

Another highlight of our hotel is the walls adorned with mosaic panels. The composition includes mid-century design elements and the shape of a Seagull (Glarros logo). The mosaic design was created by a young artist named Dante. Together with a team of creators, he successfully completed this challenging task. The best view of the mosaic-adorned walls can be seen from the hotel’s patio.

Patio

Our hotel features a charming small courtyard known as the Green Patio, where the lush green leaves of black bamboo, wall-climbing plants, and garden flowers proudly flourish. The patio is furnished with comfortable tables and chairs, as well as lounge seating.

Alongside ambient background music, you can enjoy live performances in the evenings. The Green Patio also hosts movie screenings and live broadcasts of football matches. Our special patio menu, including a delightful kids’ menu, refreshing drinks, and cocktails, promises an unforgettable festival of flavors and enjoyment.

GastroMania Restaurant & Bar

The concept of GastroMania Restaurant and Bar revolves around a unique space centered on an atrium with a majestic three-trunk palm tree that grows under the open sky, extending up to the open patio on the upper floor. The restaurant’s bar and buffets are adorned with traditional Georgian-style brass ornaments. The decor features brass elements and Georgian patterns, creating a captivating ambiance.

The Nastro lighting by TOOY in the restaurant incorporates sophisticated strip lights to enhance the overall atmosphere. The Nastro collection of suspension, wall, floor, and table lamps designed by Studiopepe features an epoxy powder-coated aluminum band structure accompanied by a cylindrical weight that counterbalances its flexuosity in a refined visual balance. The light source consists of a dimmable LED strip; the cylinders are made in brushed brass, just like the hotel’s unique spiral stairs.

Another one of our prides, the unique coffee machine Belle Époque, is prominently displayed at the bar’s central spot. This coffee machine is very original in its vertical development. The Belle Époque (also known as the coffee machine with the eagle) is a machine of inimitable class, where beauty blends with functionality and reliability. The different finishings of copper and brass, modeled with a design of retro charm, give it a distinct personality ideal for embellishing the choreography of refined and elegant places.

The Meeting Room

The hotel’s meeting room is a versatile 40-square-meter multifunctional space. Equipped with a wardrobe, mini bar, foldable conference tables and chairs, a 95-inch Sony television monitor, and a Yamaha 7+1 audio system, the meeting room is designed to cater to your every need. Whether hosting high-level presentations, film and concert screenings, sports event broadcasts, private meetings, or VIP dinners, our state-of-the-art technology ensures a flawless and professional experience.
